Life Enrichment Programs
The Life Skills Program is a very important part of Gateway Resources and is slowly expanding to meet more and more unmet needs. The Life Skills Program has begun creating individualized programs for high needs individuals. Through these programs, the individual receives extra support and is able to pursue their identified goals and interests through a program adapted to meet their needs. The participants are able to learn communication skills, life and safety skills, pursue community work and volunteer placements, academic goals and recreational aspects.
The Learning Center Program is an onsite program option that includes life skills, computer training, functional math, English classes and literacy. Each month, the Adult Educator organizes and teaches a module in a different area. Recently, we have run modules on basic first aid, friendships and conflicts, work readiness, and bicycle safety.
The Community Learning Program is to meet the needs of intellectually disabled individuals in the community. The program is currently both an onsite and an offsite program. Offsite it is located in an apartment in the community. This gives participants a unique opportunity to meet and work with other community members. CLP provides it's participants with community work and recreation experiences as well as individual instruction in functional/life skills training. The program is designed to support these activities.
The Speech and Language Program is offered on a daily basis to various participants, currently there are seven individuals who benefit from this program. We have contracted services with a Speech and Language Therapist to further develop our program and to assist to help more individuals benefit from the program.
